    This tool is for preliminary sizing. Final design must be verified with material tests, the relevant standards and equipment manufacturer data.

    Formulas

    Standard proportions
    H = 0.5D · W = 0.25D · L_b = L_c = 2D · D_e = 0.5D
    Effective turns
    Nₑ = (L_b + L_c/2) / H = 6
    Cut size
    d₅₀ = √(9μW / (2π·Nₑ·Vᵢ·(ρp − ρg)))
    Particle efficiency
    η = 1 / (1 + (d₅₀/d)²)
    Pressure drop (Shepherd-Lapple)
    ΔP = 16·H·W/D_e² · ρg·Vᵢ²/2

    Assumptions

    The Lapple method is a common pre-sizing method for tangential-inlet cyclones of standard proportions. Actual efficiency depends on particle size distribution, dust loading and geometry, and can deviate by ±10–20%.
