M.01Belt Conveyor Capacity

Calculate how much material a three-roll troughed belt conveyor can carry.

Typically 10–25°; lower for free-flowing, higher for lumpy materials.

Use 70–90% for irregular feeding.

    Formulas

    Usable width
    b = 0.9 · B − 0.05 m (B ≤ 2 m)
    Upper (surcharge) section
    A₁ = [l₃ + (b − l₃)·cos λ]² · tan β / 6
    Lower (trough) section
    A₂ = [l₃ + (b − l₃)/2 · cos λ] · (b − l₃)/2 · sin λ
    Incline factor
    k = 1 − (A₁/A)·(1 − √[(cos²δ − cos²β)/(1 − cos²β)])
    Capacity
    Q = 3600 · A · v · k · φ · ρ [t/h]

    How it works

    The load cross-section consists of the trapezoidal section formed by the troughing idlers (A₂) and the upper section formed by the surcharge angle (A₁). On inclined conveyors the upper section shrinks, reducing capacity by the factor k.

    The centre roll length (l₃) is taken from the standard values in ISO 5048 for the selected belt width.
