M.09Belt Conveyor Drive Power

Calculate the drive power required from the conveyor’s capacity and geometry.

Enter a negative value for downhill conveying.

Well-aligned, normal conditions 0.016–0.020 · poor maintenance, low temperatures 0.023–0.030

    This tool is for preliminary sizing. Final design must be verified with material tests, the relevant standards and equipment manufacturer data.

    Formulas

    Material load
    q_G = Q / (3.6 · v) [kg/m]
    Peripheral force
    F_U = C·f·L·g·[q_RO + q_RU + (2q_B + q_G)·cos δ] + q_G·H·g
    Drum power
    P_A = F_U · v
    Motor power
    P_M = P_A / η · (1 + margin)

    Method

    The C coefficient adds length-independent secondary resistances (loading zone, pulleys, scrapers) proportionally to the main resistances and increases as the conveyor gets shorter. This is a pre-sizing method; additional resistances such as inclined loading zones, skirt plates or special scrapers should be assessed separately. Use the M.01 Belt Conveyor Capacity tool to check capacity.
