M.02Pipe Pressure Drop

Calculate frictional pressure drop in straight pipe and fittings.

DN100 SCH40 inner diameter ≈ 102.3 mm.

e.g. 90° elbow ≈ 0.3–0.9 · open gate valve ≈ 0.15 · check valve ≈ 2

    Formulas

    Reynolds number
    Re = ρ · v · D / μ
    Laminar flow
    f = 64 / Re (Re < 2300)
    Turbulent flow (Colebrook)
    1/√f = −2 · log₁₀(ε/3.7D + 2.51/(Re·√f))
    Pressure drop
    ΔP = (f · L/D + ΣK) · ρv²/2

    Assumptions

    The calculation is for single-phase, incompressible, isothermal flow in a full circular pipe. Static pressure due to elevation change is not included.
