This tool is for preliminary sizing. Final design must be verified with material tests, the relevant standards and equipment manufacturer data.
Formulas
- Hydraulic power
- P_h = ρ · g · Q · H
- Shaft power
- P_shaft = P_h / η_pump
- Electrical input
- P_e = P_shaft / η_motor
Note
Total head is the sum of the static elevation difference, pipe and fitting losses and the required outlet pressure. Pipe losses can be calculated with the M.02 Pipe Pressure Drop tool. The motor should also be checked against the pump’s maximum power point (usually the right end of the curve).
