Formulas
- dBm → power
- P [W] = 10^((dBm − 30) / 10)
- Power → voltage
- Vrms = √(P · R) Vpp = 2√2 · Vrms
- Voltage level
- dBµV = 20 · log₁₀(Vrms / 1 µV)
How to use
dBm is a logarithmic power unit referenced to 1 mW: 0 dBm = 1 mW, 30 dBm = 1 W. The same power corresponds to different voltages at different impedances, so the impedance must be set correctly for voltage units.
The Vpp conversion assumes a sine wave. In a 50 Ω system, 0 dBm ≈ 0.224 Vrms ≈ 107 dBµV.
